Introduction
A displaced Texan by choice, I moved to Istanbul in 1998. Past occupations have included chef, roofer, runway model, secretary, bookkeeper, international meetings planner, editor, fundraiser and textile dealer. Other life skills collected along the way include breaking horses, herding cattle and shearing sheep. My son was born in January, 2001 and by the age of 7 months had stamps from 3 continents in his passport. Like mother, like son.
I have a twice monthly column dealing with expat parenting issues for Toady's Zaman, one of the national newspapers in Turkey. In addition to the column I also write weekly features on culture and lifestyle. My work is currently featured in magazines including Time Out Istanbul, Hali, Modern Carpets & Textiles, Taste Anatolia and Rahal Turkey (Arabic translation). I am currently working on a book about the American Civil War and the war in Iraq, contrastingthe conflicts in letters and emails from both front lines.
Two stories of mine are included in the international best-selling non-fiction anthology "Tales of the ExPat Harem" released in Turkey (Turkish and English editions) September 2005, and released in the US and Canada March 2006. Another story is included in the anthology "Mexico: A Love Story" by Seal Press. The Traveler's Tales 2007 release "A Woman's World Again: True Stories of World Travel" also includes Measuring Cups, a coming of age story about a trip to Mexico.
