Amanda Castleman is an award-winning freelance journalist, specialising in travel, the environment and women’s issues. Her features have appeared in the International Herald Tribune, Italy Daily, the UK’s Daily Mail, Wired, Salon, Time Out and on the BBC. She has also worked as an editor, staff writer, graphic and web designer.
Amanda is American by birth, but left Seattle eight years ago for Europe. She lived on a traditional narrowboat, moored on the Oxford Canal in England. She also spent two years swilling espresso in Italy, as a Visiting Writer at the American Academy in Rome. In 2003, she ranged farther afield to Greece, Cyprus and Turkey.
She reports and edits for The Athens News, Greece’s English-language newspaper. As European Travel Editor, she writes a column for American Woman Road and Travel. Amanda has contributed to several guide books, including Time Out Athens, Rome in Detail, the AA Guide to Rome and Where to Eat and Stay in France (DK Eyewitness 2004). She is currently drafting the Adventure Guide to Rome (Hunter 2005).
