Introduction
Lorraine A. DarConte was born and raised in New York and studied communications, journalism, art and photography at C.W. Post College (bachelors of applied arts) and New York Institute of Technology (Master of Communications). She spent a number of years working at PTN Publishing in Melville, New York, where she was an associate editor on Studio Photography magazine and Soap, Cosmetics, and Chemical Specialties magazine. She eventually took over the position of editor-in-chief for the company's flagship magazine, PTN (Photographic Trade News). Next, Lorraine made a lateral move to Newsday/New York Newsday where she was the television and radio editor. After three years with the newspaper, she relocated to Tucson, Arizona, where she is an independent writer and photographer. Currently, Lorraine writes travel and feature articles, plus the L'Art and Sold on Art columns for The Desert Leaf, a monthly, tabloid magazine in Tucson; and the wedding photography columns for Arizona Bride and examiner.com. In addition, she is a wedding and travel/editorial/stock photographer whose work has appeared in numerous publications and private collections.
Experience & Expertise
I believe I can tell a story with more layers since I'm the person that takes the trip, conducts the interviews and snaps the photos for the majority of my articles. Listening and seeing go hand-in-hand when taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of a place. Photography—and the pursuit of images that best tell a story—has made me a better writer. Plus, editors that hire me to write a story don't have to hire a photographer too.
