Introduction
Based in Cairo and Istanbul since early 2007 I specialise in writing about the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey. I am the author of five Footprint Guidebook titles to the region (Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Damascus and Beirut)and am a co-author on Lonely Planet's Egypt and Israel Guidebooks; have written for newspapers and magazines such as The Independent, Wanderlust and Oryx; contributed to travel reference and coffee table books such as Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2011 and Best in Travel 2012; along with writing digital content for various travel companies. Although my main focus is the Arab World I continue to travel widely and have experience in some 60 countries, particularly the South Asia, Latin America and Africa regions. Experience & Expertise
My main focus is on the Middle East where I have lived for the past four years working as a tour guide as well as a travel writer. I have conducted tours in Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco and am the author of three Footprint Guidebooks (Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan) to the region. I have been travelling, near continuously, for the past 17 years and during that time have journeyed the length and breadth of the Middle East, Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia as well as living in England, Australia, New Zealand, India and presently Egypt and Turkey, for extended periods. I’ve travelled independently to around 60 countries including Algeria, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Belize, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Honduras, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kenya, Laos, Lebanon, Libya, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Panama, Peru, Spain, Switzerland, Syria, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey Venezuela and UK.
